My Mexican Shivah

When family patriarch Moishe (Sergio Kleiner) drops dead, his disgruntled friends and relatives meet to sit shivah, a Jewish mourning ritual. As family members complain about the deceased, two angels (Enrique Cimet and Max Kerlow) evaluate Moishe's life to determine the fate of his soul. Writer-director Alejandro Springall crafts a colorful parade of absurdly eccentric characters in this ribald Mexican comedy, which opened the 2007 New York Jewish Film Festival.
