Burrell made his feature-film debut as a heroic Air Force sergeant in the brutal war drama Black Hawk Down (2001). His television work includes scattered episodes of "Law & Order" (2000-03) and recurring roles on the short-lived sitcoms "Out of Practice" (2005) and "Back to You" (2007). But he's best known for his Emmy-nominated portrayal of "cool" but clueless dad Phil Dunphy on the mockumentary-style comedy "Modern Family" (2009-).
Burrell's theater credits range from "Richard III" to the electrifying "Burn This." He also penned the off-Broadway play "Babble" with his brother, Duncan.
